Marimekko Sets the Scene for a Festive Season
For the festive season, Finnish design house Marimekko draws inspiration from the traditions, rituals and shared moments that make Christmas special. Its latest campaign brings together the brand’s distinctive patterns and playful approach to design, spanning expressive table settings, thoughtful gifts, festive dressing and considered details for the home.
At the centre of the collection is the Christmas table, where familiar porcelain designs meet new interpretations. Prints including Maija Isola’s Unikko, Erja Hirvi’s Kukasta kukkaan and Aino-Maija Metsola’s Kurre appear in earthy brown, emerald green and the rich reds of winter berries. The palette continues in Matti Klenell’s mouth blown Syksy glasses, now introduced in clear glass with sculptural stems in emerald green and ruby red. Their textured surfaces catch the light, adding another dimension to the festive table. Beyond the dining room, Marimekko’s signature Unikko pattern finds its way onto bed linen, towels and bathrobes, bringing a sense of warmth to everyday rituals. New candleholders in soft pink, burgundy and gold are accompanied by sculptural Unikko candles, transforming the iconic floral motif into a three dimensional object.
For seasonal celebrations, the collection also includes clothing and accessories. Creative Director Rebekka Bay highlights a silk shirt and skirt featuring Masaru Suzuki’s decorative Kukkahattu print, where vivid red, gold and orange come together. A different expression emerges through Maija Isola’s Basso stripe, presented in a subtle black on black interpretation on the sixties inspired Marimini dress. From the festive table to the everyday wardrobe, Marimekko’s Christmas collection celebrates the role of colour, pattern and thoughtful design in bringing people together.
