Golden Reverie: Oribe Meets the Art of Mathilde Herrero
text Christine Deckert
For Holiday 2026, Oribe teams up with French mosaic artist Mathilde Herrero for a beautiful meeting of hair, art and a little holiday magic.
There is something special about a gift that feels almost too beautiful to unwrap. This holiday season, Oribe has invited French mosaic artist Mathilde Herrero to bring her world of colour, texture and craftsmanship to its limited-edition gift collection.
The result is Golden Reverie, a dreamy artwork where golden details, flowing
shapes and rich colours come together. Inspired by everything from Gustav Klimt and the decorative arts to the koi fish tattoos of Oribe’s legendary founder, Oribe Canales, Herrero has created something that feels both playful and precious.
What makes the collaboration particularly interesting is the way she approaches hair itself. To Herrero, hair can be seen as a piece of jewellery, something to be shaped, cared for and celebrated. Working with natural stone, Venetian mosaic glass and golden materials, she wanted to achieve something rather unexpected: making hard, solid pieces feel light, soft and almost fluid, just like strands of hair.
We caught up with Mathilde Herrero to discover more about the inspiration, artistic details and ideas behind Golden Reverie.

In Conversation with Mathilde Herrero
How would you describe your artistic style, and what inspires you?
My art is characterized by a fascination with ornamentation and with traditional craftsmanship reinterpreted in a contemporary way. I draw inspiration from the surrounding nature, as well as from light and materiality.
What attracted you to collaborating with Oribe?
I was immediately drawn to the fact that Oribe showcases the work of artists from completely different worlds. Their approach was very straightforward, and I could sense their open-mindedness.
What inspired the artwork you created for the collection?
The artwork created for the collaboration is the result of extensive research, initiallycentered around the figure of women and goddesses. Gradually, the ideas became more refined and abstract, with a stronger focus on the choice of colors and precious materials. I also wanted to include a more explicit reference through the koi fish, echoing the tattoos
of Oribe Canales, which is also a recurring theme in my work.
Gold plays an important role in the collection. What does it represent to you?
Gold holds an important place in my work in general. I immediately envisioned a piece in
which its presence would feel meaningful. I wanted to illustrate the precious nature of Oribe’s products. I also instantly saw hair as something crafted and treated like jewelry. Gold brings a subtle light that enhances the artwork, as well as the materials surrounding it.
Are there any particular artistic influences behind Golden Reverie?
This artwork is inspired by my attraction to the work of Gustav Klimt and the decorative arts. It is a blend of many influences that have inspired me for years.
What did you want people to feel when seeing the artwork?
I wanted to convey something that evokes the vibrancy and fluidity associated with the world of hair. I worked with hard materials and wanted to make them feel light. I wanted the colors to intertwine, moving away from the traditional mosaic style and giving it a new dimension through elongated, filament-like pieces.
What does the title Golden Reverie mean to you?
This title evokes dreams through its many facets. At first glance, they may appear abstract, but when explored more closely, their elements can suggest familiar forms. Fleeting dreams often pass through us without our fully understanding them, only beginning to make sense when we reflect on them later. The gold and precious materials reinforce my desire to create a “precious” artwork, echoing the high-end products of Oribe.
A Little Art for the Holiday Season
The result is a holiday collection that brings a little extra beauty to the everyday ritual of caring for your hair.
