Hums and Teklan Launch a Four-Pattern Collection of Slippers, Loafers and Scarves

Swedish footwear brand Hums has collaborated with artist and designer Tekla Evelina Severin, known as Teklan, on a collection of slippers, loafers, and scarves. Teklan is internationally recognised for her use of colour, strong visual identity, and an approach to contemporary design grounded in geometry, rhythm, and optical play. The collection brings together four original patterns, each with its own reference points and logic, applied across the same forms.

“We have long admired Teklan’s distinctive universe and her way of combining vivid colours with elegant contrasts and unexpected compositions,” say Hums founders Charlotta and Henrietta. “Her work has a self-assured and expressive character that feels both artistic and sophisticated, something that resonates strongly with Hums’s world.”

For her part, Teklan describes the collaboration as an exploration of the meeting between two- and three-dimensional perception, with rhythm, optical illusion, geometry, and repetition as the central tools. Each of the four patterns takes a different approach to making a flat surface read as something more.

“Spark is a tribute to my longstanding love of the Memphis Group and their freedom in the use of pattern and geometry. The small, almost irrational shapes have a graphic shadow that makes them appear to lift from the surface. It’s a very simple device, but suddenly a flat pattern starts to take up space in the room” says Tekla

Folded Ribbon takes a more ceremonial register – “a tribute to dressing up, to something festive.” A ribbon folds diagonally across the surface and repeats until it becomes both pattern and structure, implying volume and movement despite the flatness of the material. Flash Dance draws on disco, motion, and the immediate graphic energy of comics: a lightning bolt repeated and set into sharp rhythm until “the whole surface seems to vibrate.” Totem Checker brings together two recurring preoccupations, totems and the chessboard, in a pattern that shifts meaning depending on how it is read, each repeated unit readable as a small figure or an architectural element within a strict grid.

Taken together, the four patterns form what Teklan describes as a small universe of different rhythms and references, moving from strict repetition to something freer and more irrational, bound by colour, geometry, and the sense that a surface never needs to be read as simply flat.

The Hums x Teklan collection launches at humswear.com and selected retailers in early November 2026.
