Christian Dior Presents a Night in Colour

Christian Dior Presents a Night in Colour

To celebrate the 2026 holiday season, Dior introduces Christian Dior’s Night in Colour. This animated short film, created by award-winning French filmmaker Sylvain Chomet, shares key moments from the House’s history. It highlights the friendship between Christian Dior and Marlene Dietrich, Dior’s connection with Hollywood, and the story behind the famous Junon dress from 1949. The film uses imagination and craft to depict one of Jonathan Anderson’s early inspirations for the Dior Cruise 2027 Collection: the evolution of cinema from black-and-white to Technicolour.

In the story, Dietrich is in Los Angeles, ready to start filming, when the director decides to film in colour. Hollywood contacts Paris, asking for a colourful Dior dress for Dietrich to wear on screen. The Dior seamstresses work through the night to create a new gown, which Chomet loosely bases on the Junon. Chomet, inspired by Monsieur Dior’s affectionate name for the seamstresses, his ‘bees’, shows them as skilled heroes with wings and striped bodies. Each character is named after a real craftsperson who worked with Christian Dior. Chomet’s hand-drawn animation brings rich detail and expression to this imagined world. From the ornate interiors of Dior’s apartment and the busy couture ateliers to the relaxed glamour of Dietrich’s movie trailer, each scene is filled with humour, warmth, and careful observation. Chomet’s approach mirrors the craftsmanship at the heart of Dior haute couture: in both, many hours of careful work create an impression of effortless beauty. Christian Dior’s Night in Colour celebrates imagination, creativity, and exceptional craft.

Narrated by Robert Pattinson, the movie also features Josh O’Connor as The Chair, LaKeith Stanfield as Ron the Director, and Louis Garrel as Christian Dior.

The Bees are voiced by Nine d’Urso, Nadia Tereszkiewicz, and Greta Lee, while Rihanna represents The Lucky Star and Camille Cottin is Marlene Dietrich. The Bees: Paulette, Yvonne, and Madame Marguerite are named after Yvonne Ansermier and Paulette Boncoure, seamstresses in the Dior ateliers since the House was founded, and Marguerite Carré, also known as Dame Couture, who was Technical Director of the Ateliers under Christian Dior.

To mark the festive season, the universe created in Chomet’s film will extend into a collection of ready-to-wear, accessories and homeware, with scenes and characters from Christian Dior’s Night in Color appearing in Dior boutique windows globally.
