CHANEL PREMIERE SOUND WATCH

CHANEL PREMIERE SOUND WATCH “I want to be part of what is to come” declared Gabrielle Chanel. Arnaud Chastaingt, Director of the CHANEL Watchmaking Creation Studio, unexpectedly fulfilled this wish with the creation of the PREMIÈRE SOUND watch: a long sautoir necklace featuring a watch and… wired headphones. An enhanced interpretation of the PREMIÈRE ÉDITION ORIGINALE watch, boldly connected to the present, capturing the moment and the movement of life. Created in 1987, the PREMIÈRE watch is timeless. While combining the House’s icons – an octagonal case inspired by the stopper of the No. 5 perfume bottle, a flexible bracelet as a nod to the chained shoulder strap of the House’s iconic bag – it embodies a spirit of freedom and audacity unique to CHANEL. True to this spirit, PREMIÈRE SOUND embraces the Zeitgeist while preserving its « jewelry watch » essence. Thus, the bracelet transforms into a necklace that connects in a click to a smartphone (iPhone or Android) or any audio device. Its headphones are equipped with a microphone and a remote control to adjust the volume, control audio and video playback and receive phone calls. The sophisticated aesthetics of PREMIÈRE SOUND is coupled with state-of-the-art audio technology: the headphones are precisely designed to provide high-quality sound, ensuring a pure immersive listening experience and benefit from passive sound insulation cancelling external noise interference. Just as the PREMIÈRE watch reinvented traditional watchmaking codes, the PREMIÈRE SOUND pursues this quest for creative innovation with the capacity of seizing the moment while combining natural elegance and technological performance. To be in-tune with the world and stay connected to one’s closest, to match sounds with the changing environment, to walk the urban landscape while never losing sight of the horizon. To enjoy freedom. images courtesy of Chanel

DR. MARTENS x NINE INCH NAILS: THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL COLLECTION

DR. MARTENS x NINE INCH NAILS: THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL COLLECTION A physical response to and celebration of Nine Inch Nails’ visceral, ground-breaking album. 30 years on, and The Downward Spiral still stands as a towering cultural landmark. Hailed as a masterpiece on arrival. This confrontational soundscape explores some of the bleakest themes and chronicles a descent, which threatens to overwhelm with an abrasive stripping back of its central figure’s beliefs, ideas, and ego, leaving only starkly exposed vulnerability. Intense and immersive. Ferocious and transgressive. A deeply personal musical statement that connected with millions of listeners. A cathartic exploration of the inevitable emptiness derived from self-destructive behaviour. Few artists can claim to have created something born of despair that resonates so powerfully with such a massive audience. This revered musical monolith is celebrated with a singular DM’s collection. A tribute to the darkness that generates light using some of Doc’s hardest-hitting silhouettes. “This collaboration just makes so much sense. Not just because of the countless fans I’ve seen wearing Dr. Martens at NIN concerts over the years (myself included), but because NIN and Dr. Martens are both known for rejecting convention and expectation in favour of innovation, with their distinctive ability to transcend genres and styles in a way that unique to each person who experiences them. The goal was always to make this collection feel as authentically Nine Inch Nails as possible, and I believe through close collaboration with the team at Doc’s we’ve succeeded in that.” — John Crawford, Creative Director, Nine Inch Nails The 1460 Boot distorted with the album artwork ‘Wound’ by Russell Mills. Reworked in stark black and white. Each 8-eye boot is equipped with multiple fastening options, including a branded ankle zip and removable jungle zip front. A rubber-grained trim and toe cap for an industrial aesthetic and a tactile juxtaposition against the Backhand and Smooth leathers of the upper. Set on a hard-hitting commando tread sole and secured with a black-on-black welt stitch. Finished with AirWair heel loop and references to NIN and the Downward Spiral throughout. The 1461 3-eye shoe deviates a rubber-grained leather NIN embossed toe cap, set against DM’s classic black Smooth and Backhand leathers used to construct the upper. Elevated with the iconic ‘Crystal Teeth’ image from the album’s inner art and ‘the downward spiral’ printed in a subtle gloss. Set on a pure black BEN outsole with a traditional Doc’s yellow welt stitch. The 1490 is Doc’s 10-eye boot. In tribute to the wild and uninhibited live NIN performances, a custom print inspired by the band’s pre-show ritual of covering themselves in corn starch for a decomposing, post-apocalyptic aesthetic. Constructed from textured black and white Backhand leather. Fitted with an ankle zip that slashes across the inner ankle with branded hardware. Set on an ice commando outsole and fixed with double black and white welt stitches. Finished with a monochrome heel loop and 2 pairs of wrap-around laces. Finally, an extra special edition of the 1490 boot has been created, built from leather embossed with the Downward Spiral album art in pure black. Unavailable for purchase instead some of the band’s most ardent fans will be gifted a pair. A fitting tribute to the unique bond shared by the band and those who have supported them for decades. The Dr. Martens x Nine Inch Nails collection drops Friday 19th July 2024 and will be available at drmartens.com and select partners. image courtesy of A.W.B. / A World Beneath

New Exhibition by Nathalia Edenmont Opens in Menorca

New Exhibition by Nathalia Edenmont Opens in Menorca Nathalia Edenmont presents her first solo exhibition ´For My Pleasure´ in Menorca, featuring a poignant selection of works in the newly inaugurated art space Galleria Nicola Quadri in the center of Mahón. The title of Nathalia Edenmont’s exhibition, ´For My Pleasure´ refers to one of her major works with the same epithet, but it also connects to her playful and investigative, moreover austere, attitude towards life. Edenmont creates powerful portraits that arouse our emotions, but Edenmont’s aim is not to provoke the beholder. The images that the artist recreates come to her as visions or in dreams and as fragments of childhood memories. But, since her images are so beautiful as to their composition, colours and intensity, they fascinate and capture one’s gaze. The time-consuming photographic process demands that everything is perfect, from flowers to models, styling and character, before the photograph can be taken. Edenmont challenges us as beholders by touching subjects that are often taboo in our society. Her photographs lead to debate and raise questions; but who maintains that art always needs an answer? With powerful references to historic oil paintings and religious symbols as well as contemporary art and fashion photography, Edenmont creates contemporary art history that leaves few unaffected. Nature is also an important source of inspiration, both as a starting point for Edenmont´s artistic process as well as a source of working materials. Her work centers around a fascination for beauty and the thin line between life and death. Edenmont presents a personal series of photographic images where the originals are collages created from thousands of meticulously assembled butterfly wings. Edenmont uses an analog large-format camera to achieve the highest possible image quality, which allows her to enlarge the image hundreds of times. The result is an abstract work with painterly qualities. By multiplying and then mirroring these photos against each other, Edenmont finds new complex motifs within her own imagery. The abstract works are reminiscent of kaleidoscopes and Tibetan mandalas. The artworks also have references to the butterfly’s symbolic significance for rebirth and reincarnation, where Edenmont allows new abstract creatures to emerge. In recent years, Menorca has developed into a most important summer arena for contemporary art. With Galleria Nicola Quadri´s opening this summer, featuring Nathalia Edenmont´s wondrous exhibition ´For My Pleasure´, the importance of the vivid art scene is further confirmed in the cultural and scenic atmosphere that characterizes the island. Nicola Quadri is a passionate Italian architect and interior designer, who throughout his life, has divided his time between Milan and Menorca. Having completed countless high-quality projects in Italy, Spain and France, he highly appreciates the opportunity to introduce Nathalia Edenmont to an international audience in his newly opened and breathtaking must-see space in the center of Mahón.
