Everything Opens to Touch: Sinéad O’Dwyer’s SS25 Collection – Zalando Visionary Award winner

Everything Opens to Touch: Sinéad O’Dwyer’s SS25 Collection – Zalando Visionary Award winner text Fashion Tales Irish designer Sinéad O’Dwyer made her debut at Copenhagen Fashion Week as the 2024 Zalando Visionary Award winner, showcasing her Spring/Summer 2025 collection, “Everything Opens to Touch.” The show was set in the picturesque Opera Park, where the atmosphere was transformed into a dreamy summer landscape. Sculptures inspired by O’Dwyer’s early work with artist Jade O’Belle and a soundscape by Witch Trials and Cosha added depth to the experience. Cosha also read a poem written by London-based author Anastasiia Fedorova, enhancing the immersive nature of the show. Continuing her commitment to inclusivity, O’Dwyer collaborated with models and creatives, including Alva Claire and musician Mahalia, to bring her vision to life. For the second time, the brand partnered with the Hair and Care Foundation to ensure that blind and low-vision guests could fully experience the runway show. This included immersive audio descriptions, fabric swatches for tactile engagement, and the inclusion of blind model and broadcaster Lucy Edwards, who walked the runway with her guide dog, marking a first for Copenhagen Fashion Week. O’Dwyer’s collection reimagines her signature styles with new touches, including shibari-inspired harnesses with short sleeves, micro-culottes with rara ruffles, and fitted shirts in new materials like deep blue denim. The collection also featured collaborations with other brands, such as Grounds Footwear, which contributed bubble-soled shoes with laced-up uppers inspired by Irish dancing shoes, and Savage X Fenty, which provided lace underwear that peeked through layers of denim and wool. Ecco’s bags were customized by O’Dwyer in her signature ‘Squiggle’ stretch nylon. Zalando Visionary Award: A Celebration of Innovation and Inclusivity Following the runway debut, Zalando hosted an exclusive re-see of O’Dwyer’s SS25 collection and a panel discussion on inclusivity in fashion. Industry leaders joined Sinéad to discuss her inspiration, particularly her focus on curve fashion and the importance of designing for all body types. Sinéad emphasized that the problem lies not with the wearer but with clothes that aren’t made to fit everyone. Jury members Giuliano Calza of GCDS and Edward Buchanan of SANSOVINO6 reflected on why they chose O’Dwyer as this year’s award winner. Edward highlighted that true inclusivity begins with involving models in the design process, a value central to Sinéad’s work. Casting Director Emma Matell and artist Jade O’Belle also shared their thoughts on the importance of inclusive casting and how brands can integrate this mindset from the beginning. They urged the industry to move away from exclusivity and instead celebrate inclusivity as a core value. Hacinta Naidoo, Head of Diversity & Inclusion at Zalando, spoke about the company’s ongoing commitment to a more inclusive fashion future. She shared insights into how Zalando is driving positive change through initiatives like the “Walk A Mile” campaign, which saw collaborations with designers, including panelist Giuliano Calza, to create an inclusive shoe collection that defied industry expectations. This event not only celebrated Sinéad O’Dwyer’s innovative designs but also highlighted the broader movement towards a more inclusive and diverse fashion industry, one where everyone has a place. www.zalando.sewww.sineadodwyer.com

Hermès Opens New Workshop in Gironde

Hermès Opens New Workshop in Gironde Text Jahwanna Berglund Hermès lays the first stone for the Maroquinerie de Loupes leather goods workshop in Gironde and reaffirms its commitment to creating long-term jobs and transmitting exceptional know-how in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Situated in the town of Loupes (Gironde), this new facility—Hermès’ twenty-fifth leather goods workshop in France—is set to open in 2026. Once operational, it will employ 260 artisans, each trained in the maison’s renowned craftsmanship. The Maroquinerie de Loupes will be Hermès’ second production site in Gironde, following the launch of the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul workshop in September 2021. “A Boost for Employment and Training with Strong Local Roots The Gironde hub will foster the transmission of saddlery and leather craftsmanship, preserving and sharing Hermès’ exceptional know-how. At the École Hermès des savoir-faire, an apprentice training centre accredited by the French Ministry of Education and established in the Gironde hub in 2023, Hermès artisan trainers teach the techniques of leatherworking excellence. As Ministry-certified assessors, they award both the French vocational CAP qualification in leatherworking and the CQP (Certificate for Professional Qualification) in cutting and stitching. To meet its recruitment needs, Hermès collaborates with local partners such as France Travail Nouvelle-Aquitaine, GRETA-CFA Aquitaine adult education services, and the Charles Péguy high school in Eysines. The next training intake begins in October 2024, with applications currently open on the École Hermès des savoir-faire website: https://ecole.hermes.com/. Anchored in Nouvelle-Aquitaine for the Long Term Hermès has deep roots in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, with existing workshops such as the Ganterie-Maroquinerie de Saint-Junien (Haute-Vienne) and the Maroquineries de Nontron (Dordogne), Montbron (Charente), and Saint-Vincent-de-Paul (Gironde). By 2025, L’Isle d’Espagnac (Charente) will join this network, followed by the Maroquinerie de Loupes, which will become the sixth production site for Hermès Leather Goods and Saddlery in the region. By creating high-quality jobs and contributing to sustainable regional development, Hermès strengthens its position as a socially responsible company. The establishment of the Maroquinerie de Loupes has been a collaborative effort with the Communauté de Communes du Créonnais and Sysdau, the mixed syndicate responsible for l’Aire Métropolitaine Bordelaise. Architecture Designed to Respect the Environment The design of the new workshop was entrusted to Patrick Arotcharen Architecte, the firm behind Hermès’ first workshop in Gironde, the Maroquinerie de Guyenne (Saint-Vincent-de-Paul). Nestled in naturally wooded grounds, the workshop will feature curvilinear lines that harmonize with the landscape’s natural contours and existing trees. Key features include a multi-tiered layout, with the water reservoir, car park, and workshop stacked to minimize land use. Hermès is also working closely with an ecologist to preserve and enhance the site’s biodiversity. The building will incorporate low-carbon concrete for its foundations and use wood and bio-sourced materials for its structure. To limit its energy footprint, it will include rooftop solar panels, underground geothermal probes, and a rainwater recovery system that will meet 70% of the site’s water needs. Aligned with the Hermès Group’s environmental goals, the Maroquinerie de Loupes will be a positive-energy building, designed to comply with the Harmonie framework, Hermès’ sustainable real estate guidelines.

That way we can ensure that every stage of the garment and shoe-making process is made according to handmade methods.” – Lauren Willasenin – FOUNDER & CREATIVE DIRECTOR, Miista   Zalando, launches its new exclusive footwear-capsule collection by the it-brand, Miista. As early summer breathes new life into the city, we witness it transform into a tapestry of vibrant hues and textures, embodying the essence of Miista’s designs. Through the lens of architectural beauty, Zalando invited Miista’s good friend, Brazilian photographer and model Fernanda Liberti to capture this magic.Along with local Danish muse Ash, Liberti uses the urban backdrop as their canvas, playfully exploring the hidden pockets of the city. Every street corner and architectural detail tells a story, fostering connections with each other and the surroundings, and uncovering beauty in the unexpected. It’s about experiencing the city in a way that breaks free from mundane routines and embraces a life that is uncompromising, playful and full of endless possibilities that transformation brings. The fashion campaign was shot in Copenhagen and created in collaboration with the Danish creative agency Malling. The collection will be available on Zalando in all 25 European markets. ”This capsule collection is an extension of our partnership with Miista, strengthening our connection with modern luxury consumers by presenting an exclusive product from a respected UK brand. With our unique approach to the designer category, we bring luxury fashion inspiration to our customers and connect them with our brand partners through a personal experience. Our collaboration with Miista embodies this direction, merging the brand’s creative brilliance with our distinctive and inspiration Designer shopping experience for the new generation of luxury consumers”.  – Says Lena-Sophie Röper – DIRECTOR DESIGNER & LUXURY, ZALANDO in a pressrelease. In an exclusive interview with Zalando, founder and creative director Lauren Willasenin shares insights about the process and the exciting collaboration with Zalando.  What does the creative process look like? It’s ever-evolving, and now it feels more 360 than ever. MIISTA has always had a depth that went beyond the products we handmade; it was a juxtaposition of conversations that informed the design and then filled our brain cells with storytelling ideas as we became more and more acquainted with the research topic each season. When the collection finally sees the light, we have in parallel worked and collaborated with creatives to open a conversation around the same topic from different points of view. For instance, SS24 is the second installment of creative research on the theme of TRANSFORMATION. We contextualized the word in the final part of the last century in Latin America, and the movements of queer performers and the audiences that interacted to change the societal perception of their craft and art during a moment of severe dictatorship. We have recently decided that these explorations would require us to dedicate two consecutive seasons to unpack and pay tribute to those from whom we draw inspiration to design, source the materials, prototype by hand, and go to market. All of this is very interactive and collaborative with our group of artisans with whom we work in the clothing and footwear factories in Spain and Portugal. Where was your head at while you were designing this collection? What movie storyline was happening in your mind? Who was your muse?Every Miista collection is rooted in the story of one remarkable individual. For our SS24 line, that starting point was the courageous spirit of photographer Madalena Schwartz. The middle-aged mother-of-two had spent most of her adult life running a laundromat in the centre of São Paulo – not exactly the traditional path to becoming a generation-defining counterculture photographer. But as she approached her 50th birthday, Madalena picked up a camera and began her second act, transforming her life and legacy in the process. The photographer started by focusing her lens on local cabaret acts and the cross-dressers she’d meet during her walk to work. Later, she shot members of the Dzi Croquettes, the radically progressive theatre troupe that represented everything Brazil’s conservative government was trying so hard to repress. Can you walk us through the concept of transformation that inspired this capsule collection? What does transformation mean to you?I’ve always been fascinated by the word “change” and its varied interpretations across time and place. One universal truth we all share is the sense that the world is in constant flux—never static. This dynamism touches everything: society, identity, climate, culture, fashion—they all continuously shift and evolve. Sometimes these changes are driven by external forces; other times, they emerge from within. Change can be daunting, yet it also holds tremendous potential—empowering us as we adapt our perceptions, practices, and personalities to align with our evolving world. We are undeniably living in transformative times, much like every generation before us has experienced. How did you achieve the metamorphic elements in the footwear, where materials transition from one colour to another? We believe in an artisan hand-made approach, and in investing in people over machines. That way we can ensure that every stage of the garment and shoe-making process is made according to handmade methods. From here, we can experiment, and the transformation of materials. We wanted to give this collection of pieces metamorphic features. You could observe and sense how the materials had evolved from one stage to another, but keeping a piece of the original, the raw. It’s the case of hand-painted degradé effects in the leather, converting the vegetable-tanned skins from one colour to another. Or in the case of clothing, the elusive swirling patterns in the silk pieces, and the promise that every single piece is unique. Why did you partner with Zalando on this project?Zalando is to us a good

OPENING TOMORROW Alex Katz: Seasons at MoMA

image courtesy of GRAY photography Alex Katz, Autumn 17, 2023 OPENING TOMORROW Alex Katz: Seasons at MoMA text Art Editor  Every three months, everything looks different. I’m trying to get at that. I don’t want the painting to be like a static image of reality… – Alex Katz, MoMA Magazine, July 2, 2024 Alex Katz: Seasons celebrates the artist’s ever-evolving approach to painting what he terms the “immediate present” of the natural world. Katz begins his process with photographs and small painted sketches which he transforms into large-scale, immersive compositions. In many instances, Katz removes the horizon, allowing the expanse of the painting to create an environment with no clear beginning or end. The four monumental paintings featured in Alex Katz: Seasons chronicle the changing of the artist’s environment over a calendar year. These works belong to four suites of paintings titled for each season that were created by Alex Katz in his New York studio from 2022 – 2023. The Museum of Modern ArtNew York, NYJul 4 – Sep 8, 2024

Picture This Gallery

image courtesy of Picture This Gallery photography Ewa Stackelberg, Fotogram nr18, 2016, 188x140cm Picture This Gallery text Art Editor   The summer’s big exhibition UNTITLED NATURE at Picture This Gallery shows 23 Swedish photographers who in their work relate to nature in one way or another imaging. When 23 of Sweden’s leading photographers gather around the theme, we land far from traditional nature photography. The exhibition is not about nature as a motif but as a projection surface or approach. Some photographers start from their own nature, others work against nature, because some are nature a fund, a statement, or a condition. Nature is one of the most common motifs in photography and not infrequently one of the most boring. We wanted to challenge that. The result is an exhibition where we have selected 23 photographers who use nature in their images in widely different ways. The expressions span both that aesthetic and the political, conscious identity or free intuition, says Johan Lindskog, creative director at Picture This Gallery. Why is Picture This Gallery doing this exhibition? We are Scandinavia’s foremost gallery for photography and exhibit many international ones artists. This time we wanted to dig where we stand and highlight the very best the Swedish photographers. Modern photography has a strong position in Sweden and a large one artistic and commercial potential. We wanted to show it, says Pelle Höglund, gallery manager at Picture This Gallery. Are there only female photographers in the exhibition? Why?When we started looking at which photographers we wanted to invite to the exhibition, it showed it turns out that the ones we thought related the most interestingly to the theme simply were women. You can think about why it was like that, what significance it has for the result. It will be an open question in the exhibition, says Johan Lindskog. image courtesy of Picture This Gallery photography Ewa-Mari Johansson, Tree of Life, The Tree PARTICIPATING ARTISTS Aida ChehrehgoshaAnna RiwkinAnn EringstamAnna ClarénAnnika HolmérCamilla ÅkransCecilia EdefalkDenise GrünsteinEva KlassonEwa StackelbergEwa-Mari JohanssonHelena BlomqvistJulia HettaKarolina HenkeLena GranefeltLisen StibekMaria FribergMaria MiesenbergerMartina Hoogland-IvanowTova MozardTrinidad CarrilloTuija LindströmÅsa Sjöström PICTURE THIS GALLERY – ST PAULSGATAN 29 – 118 48 STOCKHOLM    0707-411 400 WED-FRI: 12:00-17:00 SAT: 12:00-16:00 image courtesy of Picture This Gallery photography Annika Holmér, HwalerWalesWale, 70x70cm image courtesy of Picture This Gallery photography Trinidad Carillo_Untitled_2007 image courtesy of Picture This Gallery photography Aida Cherehgosha, Was Still Too Late, 2011, 122x155cm

A.P.C. OPENS ITS SECOND STORE IN STOCKHOLM

A.P.C. OPENS ITS SECOND STORE IN STOCKHOLM text Fashion Tales Parisian brand A.P.C. is opening its second Swedish store within a year of its first in the heart of Sofo, Stockholm’s trendy  southern district. Just like the first store, which opened this spring, A.P.C. plays on the similarities between the Parisian  brand’s creative universe and the characteristics of Scandinavian design.  “My father represented, in Tunisia, the Erenberg patent leather tannery near Malmö, and I sometimes accompanied  him as a child. These trips helped me to develop a certain aesthetic, one of rigor and roundness. A sense of beauty  that underlies the A.P.C. style. I’ve even been asked if A.P.C. is a Scandinavian brand! For me, the presence of  these two stores in Stockholm is an obvious choice.” says Jean Touitou, founder of A.P.C.Together with his wife Judith Touitou, Jean and A.P.C. have embodied the lack of extravagance and excess that has char acterised A.P.C. clothing since the company was founded in 1987. The chic, easy-to-wear clothes – in timeless styles and  made from high-quality materials – focus on the essentials for men and women. Laurent Deroo Architecte, who has been working with A.P.C. for more than 15 years and has designed more than  50 stores worldwide, has created a series of spaces for the new Sofo store, creating a dialogue between two display units  in a bright, high-ceilinged room. In the Nytorget store, solid Douglas pine and okoumé plywood furniture decorated with  coloured resin panels showcase men’s and women’s accessories, while a metal structure suspended from the ceiling with  honeycomb panels supports hanging pieces. A distinctive central stone table with contrasting veining and a warm nichelike space with okoumé plywood panels for the lifestyle area and fitting room add to the store’s unique aesthetic. This spring, A.P.C. opened its first Swedish boutique on Jakobsbergsgatan in the heart of Stockholm, in a recently  renovated historic pink granite building. The high ceilings, reinforced by vertical steel columns, place the A.P.C. men’s  and women’s collections at the center of the project, designed by Laurent Deroo Architecte, thanks to a hanging device  reminiscent of the structure on which the spotlights hang at concerts. The French clothing brand is renowned worldwide for the creativity, authen ticity and durability of its products. The initials A.P.C. stand for “Atelier de Production et de Création” (Production and  Creation Workshop), as the brand considers these two fashion fundamentals to be equally important.
