Weekday's After Hours 00:02 Is Dressed for the Night
Weekday’s Limited Edition series returns with After Hours 00:02, a collection built around the mood that survives a night out with its attitude intact. Design Lead Alice Shulman describes the concept simply: “After Hours is about the decadent feeling that exists after a night out. Not the perfect moment, but what remains when the night has unfolded. If the collection stumbled out of a party at 4am, the attitude would still be intact. Maybe the lipstick is gone and the heels are in a handbag somewhere, but the feeling remains.”
Drawing on late-00s model-off-duty style, NYC rock chic, and Paris after-party dressing, the collection is less about the aesthetics of that era than the attitude behind it. “I think people often remember the aesthetics of that era, but what interests me more is the attitude behind it,” Shulman says. “The mega hot fearlessness to the way people acted and dressed before everything was constantly documented.”
The pieces move between structured corsetry, a sculptural sheep leather mini dress, hot pants, low-slung trousers, a lace-up jersey party top, and a floor-length lace-up dress. Metallic fabrics in silver-gold bring after-dark finish, while eyelet detailing and lace-up constructions sit alongside softer textures. A cream corset anchors the collection’s more considered construction. “The cream corset really reflects the attention to construction and detailing that runs throughout the collection,” Shulman notes. “Structured corsetry, eyelet detailing and lace-up constructions sit alongside softer textures, creating a balance between craftsmanship, attitude and wearability.” That tension, between polish and attitude, between crafted structure and something that looks like it just rolled in, runs through the whole drop. Shulman describes a sense of desire as the collection’s connective thread: “The kind of pieces you keep thinking about, keep coming back to, keep finding excuses to wear. Some are very direct, some are a little more dramatic, but they all have a strong point of view.”
On who the collection is for, Shulman resists the idea of a single muse. “I wasn’t thinking about one specific person. What’s interesting to me is that confidence can look completely different depending on who’s wearing the clothes. Some people will be drawn to the hot pants, someone else to the sheep leather dress or the lace-up gown. The common thread is a sense of sexy self-assurance – these are pieces for someone who enjoys expressing themselves through clothes and isn’t afraid to take up a bit of space.”
