Christelle Kocher Reimagines Levi's Through the Lens of Haute Couture

During this July’s Haute Couture Week, American denim enters an entirely new conversation as Christelle Kocher unveils her debut capsule for Levi’s, presenting a visionary 10-look collection that dissolves the traditional boundaries between workwear and haute couture.

Known for her pioneering Couture-à-Porter philosophy and her role as Artistic Director of Maison Lemarié, Kocher brings together two seemingly opposing worlds—Levi’s enduring denim heritage and the extraordinary craftsmanship of the French Métiers d’Art. The result is a collection that transforms some of fashion’s most recognizable garments into sculptural couture pieces while remaining deeply connected to the authenticity of denim.

At the heart of the collection are Levi’s icons, including the legendary 501® jean and the Type II Jacket, reimagined through intricate handwork and experimental textile techniques. Feather embellishments, couture embroidery, resin-coated denim, leather embroideries, floral constructions, and dramatic plissé treatments elevate familiar silhouettes into works of wearable art. Draped black denim gowns, sculptural capes, and statement headpieces further blur the distinction between everyday dressing and the rarefied language of haute couture.

Accessories continue this dialogue with the Levi’s Baby Brooklyn Bag transformed into a couture object, accompanied by dramatic feather headpieces that amplify movement and silhouette. Throughout the capsule, denim remains the central medium, stretched beyond its conventional identity through exceptional craftsmanship and material innovation.

“It was a privilege to bring these two teams together and see this collection come to life,” says Christelle Kocher. “This capsule reflects my life between the United States and France, two countries that fuel my creative energy.”

The collaboration also marks a significant cultural milestone for Levi’s. While the brand has long been synonymous with American style, its debut presentation during Paris Haute Couture Week signals a bold expansion into one of fashion’s most prestigious arenas.

“Bringing Levi’s to Paris Haute Couture for the first time is a major moment for us,” says Mathilde Vaucheret, Vice President Europe Marketing & Brand Experience. “Partnering with Christelle Kocher felt like a natural fit. She brings a distinctly Parisian perspective with a modern edge that complements our denim heritage. Her Couture-à-Porter vision is the perfect way to elevate the craftsmanship of denim.”

Silhouettes throughout the collection move effortlessly between structure and fluidity. Layered denim plissé forms abstract floral bustiers, while degradé feather capes create sculptural movement. Couture embroidery transforms classic tanks, shirts, and denim separates into elevated eveningwear. One of the collection’s defining looks features a full feather gown paired with a matching cape, combining denim, lace, resin, and intricate textile manipulations into richly textured surfaces inspired by shimmering fish scales.

Captured by photographer Kayla Connors, the accompanying campaign reflects the collection’s tension between raw authenticity and refined craftsmanship. Cinematic yet intimate, the imagery focuses on the painstaking textile research developed specifically for the project, including experimental techniques explored at the Levi’s Eureka Lab. Close-up compositions reveal the complexity of feather constructions, hand embroidery, sculptural volumes, resin textures, and the meticulous denim manipulations that define the capsule.

More than a collaboration, the Christelle Kocher for Levi’s capsule proposes a new vision for denim—one that is equally at home on the couture runway, the red carpet, and within contemporary culture. Presented during Haute Couture Week, it demonstrates how one of fashion’s most democratic fabrics can be elevated through exceptional artisanal savoir-faire without losing the authenticity that has defined Levi’s for more than 150 years.

For Kocher, whose work has consistently championed inclusivity, craftsmanship, and cultural dialogue, the collaboration represents a natural evolution of her practice. For Levi’s, it marks a landmark moment that repositions the possibilities of denim within the highest echelon of fashion craftsmanship.

The Christelle Kocher for Levi’s capsule is not simply about reimagining denim—it is about redefining what heritage, innovation, and couture can become when they meet on equal terms.
