Michael Kors Expands Its Watch Hunger Stop Initiative in Sri Lanka With a New Limited Edition Tote
Michael Kors is marking the third year of its Watch Hunger Stop initiative in Sri Lanka with measurable progress in the fight against hunger, alongside the launch of a new limited edition tote ahead of World Food Day.
In partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the initiative supports women, local farmers and school meal caterers, helping strengthen food systems and provide more nutritious meals for children. So far, 10 schools have been renovated with energy efficient kitchens, cookware and solar panels, with another 20 set to be completed over the next year. The programme has also supported 1,500 local farmers and school meal caterers across eight districts, providing tools and resources to increase vegetable and egg production. This is helping deliver more nutrient rich meals to 250,000 schoolchildren, with funding for two additional districts planned over the coming year. By the end of 2027, WFP aims to deliver more than 16 million home grown school meals in Sri Lanka.
At the heart of the initiative are the women whose livelihoods have been transformed through this support. In Kilinochchi, caterer Nagaraja Thilageswari now manages her own farm, grows vegetables and raises poultry, providing meals for more than 300 children daily while employing other women and agricultural workers. Meanwhile, in Anuradhapura, Indrani Kusumalatha has established a poultry farm and home garden with support from WFP, creating a steady income for her family while preparing meals for children at Mahameegaswewa School. For Michael Kors, the initiative is about investing in lasting change. “It’s incredible to see the results of our work with WFP and the impact it has had, and will continue to have, on the lives of so many women and children in Sri Lanka,” says the designer, highlighting the importance of building the infrastructure needed to support local communities.
Alongside this progress, the 2026 Watch Hunger Stop campaign introduces a special edition tote featuring original artwork by artist Christina Zimpel. Its colourful illustration reflects the hope and optimism of WFP’s school meals programme. Made from 100 per cent recycled cotton, the tote is priced at $99.50, with all profits from its sale benefiting WFP. Available from 1 October online and in select Michael Kors stores across the United States, Canada, Europe, Korea, Japan and China, the tote continues the brand’s commitment to raising awareness and supporting the global fight against hunger.
