Alaïa Shapes Glass into Sculptural Jewellery

With its new Bubble earrings and cuffs, Alaïa transforms hand-blown glass into a study of form, light and transparency.

For Alaïa, jewellery becomes an extension of the body and a small-scale exercise in sculpture. The Maison’s new line of Bubble earrings and cuffs explores the expressive possibilities of glass, balancing visual volume with a surprising sense of lightness.

Each piece is created by glass artist Simone Crestani in his atelier in northern Italy. The glass is heated until soft and malleable, then individually blown, shaped by hand and delicately tinted. It is slowly cooled to reveal its final form, allowing subtle variations in colour, texture and transparency to emerge.

No two pieces are entirely alike. Each carries traces of the hand that shaped it, turning the natural irregularities of the material into part of its character. Sculptural yet light to wear, the collection continues Alaïa’s dialogue between heritage and experimentation, demonstrating how traditional savoir-faire can give rise to distinctly contemporary forms.
