To mark three decades of Acne Studios, a new campaign by Nan Goldin turns the lens on the people in its creative family, returning to the brand’s foundational material: denim.
For the first time, Acne Studios collaborates with lauded American photographer and activist Nan Goldin, who captures figures from the Acne Studios community in a series of raw, direct portraits wearing a mix of current, archive and re-editions of emblematic denim styles spanning the last 30 years. The distinctive cast was chosen to capture Acne Studios’ founding spirit: one of free expression, creative experimentation and proud individuality.
The multidisciplinary group of creatives includes Ellie Rowsell, Guinevere Van Seenus, Jonathan Lyndon Chase, Jordan Hemingway, Juliette Lewis, Peter Schlesinger, Raya Martigny, Rila Fukushima and Sandra Poulson, people who have collaborated with Acne Studios on previous occasions and contributed, in different ways, to what the brand is today.
Coinciding with the campaign, the 30th-anniversary capsule collection of re-edition denim includes the 1996, the latest slim, low-rise cut, the 2009, a bootcut drawn from the period’s iconic fits, and a denim jacket. Each comes in two washes, as if before and after: pristine raw denim is set against pairs that appear to have lived through 30 years of wash and wear.
