Balenciaga Fragrance Collection: A Dialogue Between Past and Future
text Jahwanna Berglund

On September 10, 2025, Balenciaga steps once again into the realm of perfume, unveiling a collection of ten fragrances that carry the weight of history while daring to disrupt it. More than seventy-five years after Cristóbal Balenciaga introduced Le Dix, the Maison’s very first scent, the house returns to its olfactive origins with a collection that is at once archival and avant-garde.
This new chapter is born out of a story of rediscovery. After a fifteen-year search through the House’s archives, a forgotten bottle of Le Dix from 1947 resurfaced. Its presence became the seed for the new collection, an invitation to regenerate Balenciaga’s olfactive DNA and reimagine perfume as both memory and innovation.
Each fragrance is housed in a faithfully reproduced flacon—refillable and capped with a globular glass stopper, finished with a hand-tied ribbon. The packaging bears deliberate signs of time’s passage, echoing the patina of age, and revives the logotype of Le Dix. Industrial grey boxes frame these relic-like objects, fusing craft and technology, past and present.
The collection itself is a spectrum: from luminous clarity to smoke-tinged depths, culminating in an obsidian finale. Ten individual scents that resist conformity, each a sculpted volume of air and memory. French parfumerie’s tradition collides with high-tech signatures, creating olfactive silhouettes that are not worn but inhabited.
Balenciaga has long been synonymous with duality couture as sculpture, discipline as rebellion. These perfumes carry that same spirit. They are heritage bottled, but also something radically new: couture in liquid form.
The Balenciaga Fragrance Collection will debut on September 10 at the Balenciaga Fragrance Store, located at the House’s historic address on 10 Avenue George V in Paris, and will later roll out across select stores in Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia, and online at balenciaga.com.
