  • Chanel Unveils a Glimpse of Its 2024/25 Métiers d’art Show in Hangzhou

    Written by Jahwanna Berglund

Anticipation for Chanel’s 2024/25 Métiers d’art collection reaches new heights with the release of a stunning teaser film, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Wim Wenders. The film sets the stage for an extraordinary showcase in Hangzhou, China, celebrating the artisanal craftsmanship and rich heritage that define the Métiers d’art collection.

The show pays tribute to Chanel’s exceptional artisans, and Hangzhou provides the perfect backdrop. Renowned for its historic silk manufacturing and artistic legacy, the city is a hub of creativity. Its iconic West Lake (Lake Xihu), which has inspired generations of poets and artists, now becomes the centerpiece of Chanel’s narrative.

This year’s show also carries a deeply personal connection to Gabrielle Chanel herself. Although she never visited China, Mademoiselle Chanel drew daily inspiration from a Chinese lacquer screen in her Paris apartment. The largest piece in her treasured Coromandel collection depicted the serene beauty of West Lake, fueling her creative imagination. Wenders’s film reimagines this screen as a portal linking past and present.

Featuring Chanel ambassadors Tilda Swinton, Xin Zhilei, and Leah Dou, the film embarks on a captivating journey between Paris and Hangzhou. It blends the poetic allure of West Lake with Chanel’s timeless elegance, capturing rippling waters, ancient pagodas, and verdant landscapes in a vision that bridges tradition and innovation.

Wenders’s work celebrates the cultural significance of West Lake and the transformative power of travel—both real and imagined. By blending historic motifs with cutting-edge technology, the film offers a fresh take on Gabrielle Chanel’s creative legacy and her connection to Chinese artistry.

With the December 3rd unveiling fast approaching, this teaser promises a landmark moment in fashion: Chanel’s 2024/25 Métiers d’art collection. Stay tuned for an unforgettable journey!
